It was not just any normal day. It was the day Milan would win their 7th Champions league trophy. The Rossoneri, dressed in their away colours of white, would take on liverpool, in a re-match of the disasterous 2005 final in Istanbul, where Milan threw away a 3-0 lead to lose in a penalty shoot out.

Carlo Ancelotti would not let the same mistake happen again.

The experience of Filippo Inzaghi, or the youth Alberto Gilardino?

Inzaghi got his start, and firmly repaid Ancelotti's faith by scoring the 2 goals for Milan to beat Liverpool 2-1.

A deflection in the 44th minute and a second in the 82nd minute was all it took to exaporate the liver-pool.

Liverpool would not go on to be 6-times European Champions. All they could take back was a medal and a consolation 86th-minute consolation goal from Dirk Kuyt.
